Description
Pa Then Hill Tribe Outfit
the model is wearing Genuine Vintage Pà Thẻn tribal clothing.
Stunning outfit of the Pà Thẻn hill tribe of Northern Vietnam. The Pà Thẻn population of around 6,000 inhabit the northern most Ha Giang province of Vietnam and cultivate rice on the steep terraced mountainsides which characterize this region.
Known for their skillful hand weaving, sewing and embroidery, the Pà thẻn place a great deal of importance on their clothes. Pà Thẻn girls are taught to weave and embroider from an early age, their oufits follow a traditional design but include individual flourishes and patterns. Their distinctive traditional red dye comes from the trunk of the pa-xi-mung tree.
These particularly beautiful examples of the jacket, ke-o-po, and skirt, ket tanh, are entirely handmade. Hand woven cotton, dyed, stitched, and hand embroidered with soft natural silk thread, the time and skill that goes into such an outfit is astonishing. Absolutely no machining involved in the making. All the pink embroidery you see is the softest natural silk.
The jacket is short in style, with a long tail to the back, tied around the waist. It has two handy pockets on the front. The red and blue cotton is hand stitched with silk thread onto hemp in this case, for a warm double layer on the shoulders.
The skirt is a simple tie design, suitable for most sizes, featuring the same cotton with silk stitching and embroidery. Age is approximately fifty plus years,
